NABA invites to this year’s Summit “The Blue Opportunity”

Over 500 Nordic and African representatives from the industry are gathering in Oslo when NABA for the 8th time invites to the Summit in Oslo together with Norfund and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For many years, SANDS has assisted Norwegian companies in several African countries and is therefore glad meeting areas are arranged that can contribute to increased collaboration and trade. This year’s theme “the blue opportunity” is especially important to us.

SANDS’ Energy, Shipping & Offshore group is a modern advisor in a traditional industry. Our core team has industrial experience from leading positions in oil, oil service and shipping companies, which gives our counselling unique quality and depth.

When the conference begins in Oslo on 8 November, it’ll be under the banner “The Blue Opportunity”. The managing director of the Norwegian-African Business Association, Eivind Fjeldstad, says the theme will cover several topics.

- This summit meeting is a unique platform for our African partners as well as for Nordic industries wanting to take part in Africa’s growth and the possibilities of the continent, Fjeldstad says.

Among this year’s main speakers is Benin’s President Patrice Talon, who represents a new generation of African leaders with his background from the industry. The presidential speech will be followed by 35 skilled speakers from Unilever, Standard Chartered, Equinor, Yara International, International Trade Center, World Ocean Council, Ferd Group, A.P Moller Capital Bank, RaboBank and DNV GL.

With “blue opportunity” NABA looks towards the renewable possibilities of solar power, wind power, hydraulic power and the resources of the ocean, in addition to the need for water to run Africa’s agriculture. Trade is also key – 90 percent of the continent’s import and export is done by sea.

- Norway has a long and proud maritime history; the North is a leading energy and fishing region. The Summit is the place where industries meet, experience is shared and new partnerships are made, Fjeldstad says.

This year’s conference will have panel debates discussing the overall picture and the long term visions within investments, trade and renewable possibilities. As in previous years, over 20 African ambassadors will hold the conference’s “speed meetings”, where participants will have the chance to meet the ambassadors in person.

- Our lawyers have assisted clients in African countries for more than 20 years. Therefore, we are glad meeting places are arranged that can contribute to increased collaboration and trade, Ernst Ravnaas, the Managing Partner of SANDS, says.
