SANDS plays an active role in the development of an African market and we have gradually established strong relations to several businesses on this exciting continent. SunErgy is a company working closely with the lawyers in SANDS. The company has developed a concept for the development of “off grid” solar energy parks and bases their business on a vision of: “The power to change lives”.
The vision of SunErgy is to give people an opportunity to escape poverty, experiencing a brighter future. Electricity offers access to the outside world through cable television, internet and mobile phones, offering a host of new business opportunities and the possibility of a better future and brighter life. An opportunity they never had before.
Based on its vision, SunErgy has constructed solar cell parks in villages in Cameroon since 2012. At that time, the company entered into an agreement with the government on the development of more than 90 villages on the establishment of solar cell parks for the delivery of power for lighting, internet and cable TV. In 2015, the first installation was connected. The company’s growth has been financed by a smaller circle of shareholders around entrepreneurs Ole Hallvard Haugen and Stein Skjørshammer. Last year, Alf Bjørseth came in as a shareholder and new chairman of the board and in March of this year the German fund KGAL entered the company through private placing. In total, the company brings in MNOK 22 from KGAL and Alf Bjørseth. The amount is enough to cover the company’s growth plans for this year and the company is already preparing the financial and organisational basis for additional growth in western Africa.
