ON THE HORIZON - A recap from our first year...
In this special summer bulletin, we look back at the first year of our market-leading newsletter for the maritime and offshore sector, On the Horizon. There has certainly been no shortage of material.
Our first edition was on the ever-present risk of drug smuggling for shipowners and their charterers. Then we turned to the English High Court decision of Urania Shipping Company Ltd v Nordtrade Sia, Nordtrade Tasimacilik Tic. AS [2025] EWHC 1835 (Comm) which considered important issues in shipping such as a shipbroker’s authority to fix a charter and what happens if that authority is disputed.
In offshore energy, our editions have examined trenching delays, carbon capture, managing subsea infrastructure risk and, most recently, the new CO2TIME form, in from BIMCO. Elsewhere in decarbonisation, we have examined the impact of the transition to greener shipping on shipbuilding. We looked at the (very much unresolved) issue of which alternative fuel will prevail – the VHS v Betamax problem.
We have also taken a deep dive into the effect of geopolitical risks on offshore projects as well as the impact of turbulent world events on the LNG market.
In the superyacht sector, we have considered what happens when a buyer does not pay the deposit due under a sale agreement. And, of course, we had our round up of key cases in 2025, which we will repeat at the end of 2026.
Links to all of these articles are set out below and we very much hope you enjoy taking a look back at what has proved to be another year of change and turbulence in our maritime world.
