Maren is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer who advises clients dealing with complex offshore and onshore construction and engineering projects, including shipbuilding, wind farms and subsea cables. Throughout her career, she has had a strong focus on the energy industry, including both oil and gas and renewables.
Maren provides clients with risk management support during the execution and delivery stages of projects. She focuses on early risk identification and commercial resolution strategies, bringing disputes expertise to bear during project execution to avoid costly formal proceedings. Where a dispute is unavoidable, her practice covers all forms of dispute resolution methods such as mediation, adjudication, international arbitration (LCIA, ICC, and LMAA), and High Court litigation. Maren frequently handles cases involving international dimensions, managing competing proceedings in different jurisdictions.
Key experience:
- Acted for a rig owner in a USD 500 million LMAA arbitration relating to termination of a shipbuilding contract for excessive delay.
- Successfully defended an adjudication claim against an EPC contractor relating to a contractual dispute concerning a powerplant. The contract was based on a FIDIC Yellow Book contract with bespoke amendments, and the dispute related to reconciling inconsistencies in the Employer’s Requirements.
- Advised a client on an off-hire dispute relating to a vessel’s ability to meet specific technical requirements concerning noise levels.
